MSED Student Wins ACT Institute Award
Mathematics and Science Education student teacher Julia Gonzalez (B.S. Physics Ed. '13) was awarded multiple honors for coaching the ACT prep team at Chicago's Juarez High School. The ACT Institute, organized in 2010 by Chicago Public Schools Juarez High School, prepares college juniors for ACT college entrance exams.
Gonzalez's ongoing work with high school juniors preparing for the ACT resulted in three awards. She coached the team with the highest composite science score and the team with the most improved science composite score. Ms. Gonzalez also coached the student with the highest composite score in science in the institute's history.
On May 18, 2013, Gonzalez graduated from IIT as the first student to earn a degree in physics education. She plans to teach high school physics in the Chicago area.
