Research & Accomplishments 

My research centers on the theoretical calculation of the optical and electronic properties of electrons confined in semiconducting structures of reduced dimensionality such as quantum wells, quantum wires and quantum dots. Such structures have been artificially fabricated using novel techniques of crystal growth and in these structures the motion of the charge carriers (electrons and holes) is confined along one or more directions. Because of this confinement, the charge carriers behave as a quasi-two dimensional gas of particles in quantum wells, a quasi-one dimensional gas of particles in quantum wires and a quasi-zero dimensional gas of particles in quantum dots and this reduction in dimensionality leads to many interesting and novel optical and electronic properties of these systems. Recent work involves the Franz-Keldysh effect in the one photon and two photon absorption in these semiconducting nanostructures.
