Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Chemistry Teaching Certification

The Chemistry Department works with the Mathematics and Science Education Department to prepare students for a career in science education. High school science teachers are in high demand, and must have a bachelor's degree and 27 credit hours of education classes, including student teaching. Both a chemistry degree and a teaching certificate can be earned in four years with this program. As students still obtain a bachelor's degree, other career paths remain open.

Students who wish to obtain an ACS-certified degree can take one additional chemistry course, CHEM 416. This will require taking at least one course during the summer. MSED 250 and 350 are offered every summer.

Note that CHEM 321, 434, 415 and 451 are not offered every semester, and so the plan may differ in semesters 5, 6, and 7 depending on course offerings. All 4 courses will be offered, and must be taken, during the 3-semesters preceding student teaching (MSED 450).
