Rapidly advancing technology is changing the practice of every profession today. Rarely does that take on the life and death significance it does in medicine. Effective use of technology in medicine saves lives. IIT's premedical and combined medical school programs are designed to meet the need for technologically proficient physicians and medical researchers. In addition, IIT offers joint programs in Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM).
IIT offers multiple pathways for pursuit of a career in the health professions. Joint programs in medicine which lead to a B.S. degree from IIT and either a D.O. or O.D. degree from Chicago area schools are available. Students may also apply to a pre-pharmacy program which allows early entrance into pharmacy school at Midwestern University. Other options include a minor in pre-medical studies which ensures completion of all pre-requisites for entrance into medical school and prepares students for their M1 year, and a post-baccalaureate program for college graduates who wish to pursue a medical education but lack the necessary academic background.
IIT and Midwestern University's Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) have partnered to offer the Dual Admission — Osteopathic Medicine (B.S./D.O.) program. The program provides dual admission to IIT and CCOM. With the increasingly important role of technology in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, a rigorous baccalaureate education in a technological field is ideal preparation for students interested in pursuing a career in osteopathic medicine.
