Letter from the Chair

Dear Faculty, Students, Alumni and Friends,

Welcome to the Department of Applied Mathematics at Illinois Institute of Technology, where modern applied mathematics is developed in response to problems in science, engineering, and society.

Our department’s mission is to provide an excellent learning experience for our students. Our faculty and staff work diligently on developing degree programs, curricula, and research programs that are adapted to current needs and trends.

Our department's research profile spans five interdisciplinary areas of applied mathematics. We work on theoretical, methodological, computational, and applied problems that are of relevance to many application areas including various branches of engineering, biological sciences, management sciences, physics, social sciences, and the financial industry. Our faculty’s research has been continuously supported by grants and contracts from various federal agencies and industries. We actively involve graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral associates in our research projects.

Various degree programs that we offer help students gain analytical and problem-solving skills, preparing them for various career paths in industry and academia. We invite you to explore our undergraduate, graduate and professional master’s programs. The department provides unique opportunities and environment for the students: our small size and interdisciplinary nature ensures close mentoring, exciting research opportunities, and accessibility of both faculty and student organizations.
