Big Data Analytics

Xian-He Sun
Distinguished Professor of Computer Science

Big data analytics need powerful file systems to handle large amounts of data and powerful computing systems for accurate results.  Accuracy and performance, however, often have conflicting goals and cannot be supported at the same. Traditional systems such IBM GFS and Oracle database support the former and newly emerged data systems such as Google HDFS and Spark focus on the latter. Sun and his research group are working from model, algorithm, software design and implementation to integrate these two camps of systems to build integrated software environments for high-performance data analytics.
